SlashNow has once again been revived after a 2 month hiatus. This time I am determine to push beyond what I have not achieve in my previous attempts (or failures).

From today onwards SlashNow will fuse our tech and anime contents as well as provide additional contents (try find it around the website). You will find all of the posts in the one place and you no longer need to remember all those subdomains we have, if you have bookmarked them you can get rid of it (except for this one ofcourse).

The main problem with running SlashNow under a different subdomain and wordpress install is that I find it hard to control all of the contents and the install itself. Everytime there is an upgrade I personally have to go through all of the subdomains and upgrade them individually. As some of you know this can be a very cumbersome and time consuming process.

Apart from that the homepage now will give you a extensive look at all the categories. There is also a featured post box to show you what are some of the hot posts at the moment. I hope the new layout is not too confusing, if it is leave a comment below and I will try and explain it in another post.

So to close up this post, running everything in a central portal means SlashNow is now more maintainable on my part so the time I have left over will be used to write interesting and informative contents for you. Stay tuned.

Holiday Makeover

With Christmas and the new year fast approaching, we decided to switch over to a new theme which would better suit our contents and be more appealing to our viewers at the same time. I am still making changes so if anything look out of the ordinary, just check back in a couple hours.

GoTD to Separate from Tech News

Since I don’t have the time to update anything right now due to exam prep, I will take this opportunity to do a complete makeover as to how SlashNow operates. And after careful consideration tech posts and GoTD will be separated, all the posts here related to GoTD will be moved over to another blog.

So from the 21st November 2009 onwards:

All SlashNow tech news will be found at tech.slashnow.com.
All GoTD post will be found at gotd.slashnow.com.
blog.slashnow.com will become a place where I post update for various blog in the SlashNow Network.
SlashNow will be hosted on a more faster, reliable server.

Also with the help with a couple friends, SlashNow will also expand to have blogs about anime and popular TV series. Stay tuned for that update.

Sorry, for the Hiatus!

For the past few days, I could not get the time to write anything or even post the GoTD due to various assignments. Sorry about that! And with exams approaching, I will probably be on and off for the next 2 to 3 weeks as well. Just a heads up so you don’t think that I am a lazy bastard (any more than what you already know).

Another Site Update

By now you should have realise there was a major change in SlashNow’s layout! Yes! Its now a two-column layout rather than a three-column. After careful consideration I decided that having two columns would provide the main content more room so its easier to look at and also make the sidebar a little less crowded and confusing.

New commenting system (Disqus) was also implemented. Now our royal viewers would not need to input details every time they wish to comment, they can simply use either their twitter or Facebook login. The background colour has also being change to make the content stand out more. Search form has being changed to make it more suitable for the theme.

Email subscription form has being removed indefinitely, normal RSS feed is still there. However if you would still like to get daily content in your email, click the ‘STAY UPDATED! SUBSCRIBE!’ towards the top right corner of the page and then click ‘Get //Now delivered by email’.

I hope these changes I made has made your experience with us better, leave a comment letting us know what you think could be improved. There are many more changes planned, so until then enjoy the daily contents.

Microsoft Adds More Awesome Themes to Windows 7

In time for the release for Windows 7, Microsoft has added 14 new customised theme to its Windows 7 gallery. There is something for everyone. Car lovers would probably like the Ferrari, Ducati, Porsche and Infiniti themes. While hardcore xbox gamers would most likely prefer the two Gears of War themes.

If your like me who prefer a more cool/laid back/landscape(ish)/scenery theme the Bing’s Best would be perfect for you. To download the themes head over to Windows 7 Personalization Gallery.

Installing these themes is easy, follow the instruction below.

To download a theme, click the Download button, and then click Open. The theme is applied to your desktop and added to Personalization in Control Panel.

Windows 7 Retails Today

Finally the wait is over, Windows 7 has finally retailed. If your like me I’m very excited about Windows 7 and rightly so! I could say many of Windows 7’s feature is better than Mac’s OSX.

If you are looking to get a copy of Windows 7 from retail stores or buy a new computer preloaded with Windows 7. DON’T! There are plenty of ways out there to get it for cheap or even free for that matter. One of the way is joining the Windows 7 Upgrade Program, which would work if you have purchased a new PC or laptop preloaded with Windows Vista between June 26th, 2009 and January 31st, 2010. Basically if you fall into this category contact your computer maker and sign up to the program and they will send a upgrade DVD to your mailbox.

I have attached below some manufactures which does run the Windows 7 Upgrade Program and their links.

If you are a student chances are you can also get Windows 7 on the cheap just ask around. Let me know how your Windows 7 experience is/was.

SlashNow just got Mobilized!

I’m very excited to announce that SlashNow has its very own mobile site! Originally you were able to browse SlashNow using your mobile device but it used too much download quota and the loading speed was horrendous.

The new SlashNow mobile site will now provide you (our royal viewers) with all the contents that exist on the normal site as well as providing a lighter, and more speedier solution for viewing on your mobile devices.

To access the new mobile site simply visit the original SlashNow URL from your mobile device, if the system detect that your using a mobile browser it will automatically redirect you to our mobile site. However if the system doesn’t redirect you, simply visit the URL below.

Google Trike Goes Where Google Street View Can’t

That ain’t a Google Ice Cream stand in the video below. If your wondering, its Google’s newest way to extend the reach of Google Map Street View. By using a peddle bikes street view now can go where the street view car cannot.

Google Trike was first unveiled in the UK and due to its success Google has decided to bring the Trike to the U.S. You now can nominate where the Trike should go and take street view shots of interesting and unique places in the U.S. To nominate just head over to http://maps.google.com/trike.
